Job summary

Alstom in Johannesburg seeks an experienced Industrial Quality Engineer to lead methods and tools for zero external demerits and to deploy digital quality tools across the business. You will work with Process, Engineering and Supply Chain teams to improve quality standards and solve non-conformances.

The role requires 5+ years in quality management, strong communication, and proficiency with ISO9001/IRIS. A degree in engineering and readiness to work in a matrix environment are essential.

• Experience in industrial-level quality processes.
• More than 5 years of experience in Quality Management and Tools Processes.
• Knowledge of quality standards (ISO9001, IRIS, CMMI).
• Ability to read drawings and specifications.

Responsibilities

• Manage Industrial Quality Methods & Tools activities, including people, processes, and performance.
• Develop and deploy processes, tools, and quality standards (e.g., Quality Control Plans, Self-Inspections).
• Drive detection improvements through the implementation of innovative digital tools.
• Deliver Industrial Quality Standard training sessions.
• Manage traceability and configuration activities related to car history books.
• Plan and execute workstation audits and build improvement plans based on lessons learned.
• Ensure compliance with MMD and material testing activities.
• Support APSYS improvement plans for Industrial Quality requirements.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve problems and manage NCRs.

Your future role

Take on a new challenge and apply your expertise in industrial quality and digital tools in a cutting-edge field. You’ll work alongside a collaborative and innovative team of professionals.

You’ll play a key role in driving zero external demerits for customers and improving industrial quality performance, particularly for special processes. Day-to-day, you’ll work closely with teams across the business (such as Process & Manufacturing Engineering, Engineering, and Supply Chain), contribute to the development and deployment of quality standards and tools, and support cross-functional teams with problem-solving and non-conformance management.

You’ll specifically take care of deploying quality control plans and managing digital quality tools, but also ensure adherence to workstation audits and drive continuous improvement plans.

We’ll look to you for:

• Managing Industrial Quality Methods & Tools activities, including people, processes, and performance
• Developing and deploying processes, tools, and quality standards (e.g., Quality Control Plans, Self-Inspections)
• Driving detection improvements through the implementation of innovative digital tools
• Delivering Industrial Quality Standard training sessions
• Managing traceability and configuration activities related to car history books
• Planning and executing workstation audits and building improvement plans based on lessons learned
• Ensuring compliance with Monitoring & Measuring Device (MMD) and material testing activities
• Supporting APSYS improvement plans for Industrial Quality requirements
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams to solve problems and manage non-conformance reports (NCRs)

All About You

• Degree in engineering (Industrial, Material, Mechanical, or equivalent)
• Ability to read drawings and specifications, and familiarity with a variety of test equipment
• Special Process Qualification at Level 1 (according to Quality Academy criteria)
• Experience in industrial-level quality processes
• More than 5 years of experience in Quality Management and Tools Processes
• Experience in managing quality tools (e.g., problem-solving, Lean Six Sigma)
• Working knowledge of digital tools
• Reactivity, resilience, and rigor
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Solution-driven mindset with excellent time management abilities
• Knowledge of quality standards (e.g., ISO9001, IRIS, CMMI) and quality tools
• Ability to work in a matrix organization and handle pressure effectively
