About the Role
Our client is seeking an experienced Metallurgist to join their mineral processing plant near Upington , focusing on process optimization and efficiency improvements. You will play a key role in analyzing plant performance, troubleshooting operational issues, and implementing strategies to maximize mineral recovery and product quality. This hands-on role requires strong analytical skills and a deep understanding of metallurgical principles applied to mineral beneficiation. You will contribute directly to the profitability and sustainability of the operation through expert metallurgical guidance.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and analyze metallurgical plant performance data, identifying areas for improvement in recovery, grade, and throughput.
- Conduct laboratory and pilot-scale test work to evaluate new processing techniques or reagents.
- Troubleshoot operational challenges and implement solutions to maintain or enhance plant efficiency.
- Develop and implement process control strategies to ensure consistent product quality.
- Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to optimize plant performance and reliability.
- Prepare technical reports on metallurgical performance, test work results, and recommendations.
- Stay abreast of new technologies and industry best practices in mineral processing.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in mineral processing operations, preferably in the metals or industrial minerals sector.
- Strong understanding of comminution, flotation, leaching, and other relevant beneficiation processes.
- Proficiency in metallurgical accounting and data analysis.
- Experience with metallurgical simulation software is an advantage.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and strong communication skills.
