Job summary

The Department of Health in Gauteng seeks a Medical Officer in General Surgery at Pholosong Regional Hospital. You will provide frontline clinical care, assess and manage surgical emergencies, and assist with procedures under supervision.

Applicants must hold MBChB/MBBCh and be registered with the HPCSA, with relevant trauma experience. After-hours call participation is mandatory; ATLS is advantageous, and strong teamwork and communication are required.

Qualifications

• MBChB/MBBCh or equivalent medical qualification and HPCSA registration.
• Competency in assessment and initial management of surgical emergencies and trauma.
• Participation in the hospital's after-hours call system is compulsory.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical care to General Surgery patients, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment and discharge.
• Assess and manage surgical and trauma emergencies within the MO scope of practice.
• Assist with and perform surgical procedures under supervision as appropriate.
• Participate in ward rounds, clinics, theatre activities and multidisciplinary care.
• Maintain accurate records and medico-legal documentation timeously.
• Engage in clinical governance activities and quality improvement.
