Job summary

Kontak Recruitment is seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer in Boksburg to drive the design, execution and delivery of mechanical projects across South Africa and Africa. The role blends hands-on design, project engineering and on-site support, with involvement from planning through to commissioning and handover.

The successful candidate will have 3–5 years in rotating equipment projects, strong Autodesk Inventor skills, and a proven ability to work with clients and multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 3–5 years’ experience in mechanical engineering and/or project engineering specific to rotating equipment.
• Strong working knowledge of Autodesk Inventor – essential.
• Experience supporting or managing mechanical projects from design through to commissioning.
• Confident communicating directly with clients, contractors and senior stakeholders.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting and root-cause analysis abilities.
• Experience with rotating equipment such as industrial gearboxes, turbines or blowers highly advantageous.
• Willing and able to travel nationally and across Africa for approximately four to six weeks per project.
• Able to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary project team.
• Valid driver’s licence and own reliable vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Assist with mechanical engineering design and the development of practical technical solutions.
• Produce and review mechanical drawings using Autodesk Inventor.
• Support the planning and execution of projects from inception through to installation and commissioning.
• Conduct fault-finding, technical investigations and root-cause analysis.
• Monitor project progress, technical requirements, quality standards and deadlines.
• Prepare technical reports, project documentation, progress updates and client feedback.
• Participate in quality assurance and ensure compliance with relevant project standards.
• Support research and development initiatives and identify opportunities for system optimisation.
• Liaise with clients, contractors, suppliers and internal project teams.
• Develop and maintain strong, long-term client relationships.
• Represent the business professionally during site visits and project assignments across Africa.
