Job summary

A leading food and beverage manufacturer in Cape Town is seeking a Mechanical Fitter to perform installation, repair, and maintenance of mechanical equipment. The ideal candidate will have a Trade Certificate and 3+ years of experience, preferably in the FMCG sector. Responsibilities include executing preventative maintenance and ensuring compliance with safety standards. This is a full-time, permanent position.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years experience as a Mechanical Fitter in a Maintenance Department required.
  • Background in FMCG environment advantageous.
  • Must possess strong knowledge of plant machinery.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily maintenance duties and report damages to the Maintenance Manager.
  • Execute preventative maintenance as scheduled.
  • Attend to breakdowns and corrective maintenance tasks.

Job Overview

in2food Group (Pty) Ltd is a premium food and beverage manufacturer specialising in private label and own brands.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Mechanical Fitter responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and adjustment of mechanical equipment and machinery to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform daily maintenance routine duties and report any breakages or damages to the Maintenance Manager or Factory Engineer, complete daily logbook and all required documentation timeously and accurately on CMMS.
  • Execute preventative maintenance as per schedule.
  • Attend to breakdowns and corrective maintenance in a timely manner with no risk to food safety.
  • Ensure health and safety, housekeeping and hygiene practices are always maintained.
  • Be a mentor to Apprentice Artisans.
  • Follow company policy, legislation, best practice and organisational objectives.
  • Follow workplace safety standards and ensure machines comply with legal and company requirements.
  • Lock‑out / tag‑out (LOTO) equipment before repair or maintenance.
  • Identify hazards and report unsafe conditions.
  • Perform routine inspections, servicing and preventive maintenance on machines.
  • Diagnose mechanical faults and carry out corrective repairs.
  • Replace worn or faulty parts such as bearings, gears, belts or shafts.
Technical Skills
  • Strong knowledge of plant machinery including conveyors, motors, gearboxes, pumps, air compressors and valves.
Qualifications
  • Trade Certificate and / or Red Seal.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Mechanical Fitter in a Maintenance Department.
  • Background in the FMCG environment would be advantageous.
  • Excellent abilities to complete root cause and failure analysis imperative for the job.
Personal Attributes & Skills
  • Excellent root cause and failure analysis skills.
  • Knowledge of routine planned and preventive maintenance.
  • Strong knowledge of plant machinery.
Additional Requirements
  • Ability to commute or plan to relocate before starting work.
  • In‑person work location.
