Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join the Product Development team in Benoni, Gauteng. The role covers concept generation, design, prototyping, testing and production support in a hybrid in-office/remote setup.

You will design and analyze mechanical components for consumer and industrial products, using CAD and CAE tools, and collaborate with designers and manufacturing teams to meet quality and cost targets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 2–4 years in mechanical design and product development.
• Proficient in SolidWorks or Inventor.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop new mechanical concepts and components for consumer and industrial products.
• Utilize CAD software to create detailed 3D models, assemblies, and 2D drawings.
• Conduct engineering analysis, including stress, thermal, and vibration analysis, to optimize designs.
• Build and test prototypes, gathering data to validate performance and identify areas for improvement.
• Collaborate closely with industrial designers, electrical engineers, and manufacturing teams throughout the product development process.
• Prepare comprehensive documentation, including design specifications, BOMs, and test reports.
• Troubleshoot mechanical issues encountered during development, testing, or production phases.
• Research and evaluate new materials, technologies, and manufacturing processes.
• Ensure product designs meet regulatory requirements, safety standards, and cost targets.
• Support manufacturing by providing technical expertise during scale-up and production.
