Job summary

Network Finance is seeking a Mechanical Draughtsman to create precise 3D CAD models and 2D manufacturing drawings for armoured vehicle components. You will develop solid models, prepare layouts, fabrication drawings and maintain accurate assembly documentation.

You will ensure tolerances, materials and specs are correctly applied, adhere to company drawing standards, and collaborate with design engineers to refine parts for manufacturability and integration into complete vehicle systems.

Responsibilities

• Produce detailed 2D manufacturing drawings and 3D CAD models for components and assemblies.
• Develop solid models of components, sub-assemblies and complete assemblies.
• Prepare detailed layout, fabrication and manufacturing drawings.
• Produce drawings for machined components, sheet metal, weldments and fabricated structures.
• Develop and maintain accurate assembly drawings, exploded views and BOMs.
• Interpret designs and translate concepts into production-ready drawings.
• Apply dimensions, tolerances, materials, finishes and specs.
• Ensure drawings comply with drawing standards and document-control procedures.
• Collaborate with design engineers and senior designers to refine components.
• Support integration of mechanical components into vehicle systems.
• Assist with prototype builds, assembly and testing activities.
• Update drawings from prototype/testing feedback and maintain revisions.

A leading defence and specialised vehicle engineering organisation is seeking an experienced Mechanical Draughtsman to join its engineering and design team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for producing accurate 3D models, detailed manufacturing drawings, assemblies and technical documentation for armoured and military vehicle systems. The role will work closely with design engineers, manufacturing teams and prototype specialists to ensure that designs are technically accurate, manufacturable and fit for purpose.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce detailed 2D manufacturing drawings and 3D CAD models for mechanical components and assemblies.
• Develop solid models of components, sub-assemblies and complete assemblies.
• Prepare detailed layout, fabrication and manufacturing drawings.
• Produce drawings for machined components, sheet metal, weldments and fabricated structures.
• Develop and maintain accurate assembly drawings, exploded views and bills of materials.
• Interpret engineering designs and translate concepts into accurate production-ready drawings.
• Apply appropriate dimensions, tolerances, materials, finishes and manufacturing specifications.
• Ensure drawings comply with company drawing standards, numbering systems and document-control procedures.
• Work closely with Mechanical Design Engineers and Senior Designers to develop and refine vehicle components.
• Support the integration of mechanical components into complete vehicle systems.
• Assist with prototype builds, assembly and vehicle testing activities.
• Update drawings based on prototype, testing and manufacturing feedback.
• Capture engineering changes and maintain accurate revision-controlled documentation.
• Liaise with manufacturing and fabrication teams to resolve drawing and technical queries.
• Support the engineering team during design reviews and technical investigations.
• Ensure that all technical documentation is accurate, complete and suitable for manufacture.
• Assist with continuous improvement of existing vehicle designs and engineering processes.
• Maintain accurate CAD models and engineering data throughout the product lifecycle.

Minimum Requirements

• Professional Draughting qualification, N6 Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical qualification.
• 2–6 years' relevant mechanical draughting experience.
• Experience in mechanical design and detailed engineering draughting.
• Strong experience producing manufacturing and assembly drawings.
• Proven ability to work with 3D CAD modelling and 2D technical drawings.
• Experience with components, assemblies, sheet metal, weldments and machined parts.
• Good understanding of manufacturing processes, engineering materials, tolerances and fits.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications accurately.
• Strong attention to detail and technical accuracy.
