Qualifications

About the Role

Our client, a prominent manufacturer of heavy industrial equipment for the energy sector, is seeking a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to join their growing engineering department in Klerksdorp, North West. This role is integral to the design and development of innovative power generation machinery, including turbines, generators, and associated mechanical systems. You will be responsible for creating detailed mechanical designs, performing stress and thermal analyses, and ensuring that all designs meet stringent performance, safety, and regulatory standards. The position requires a blend of in-office design work and potential interaction with manufacturing and testing facilities. Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical components and systems for power generation equipment using CAD software.
• Perform detailed engineering calculations, including stress, strain, thermal, and vibration analysis.
• Create and maintain comprehensive design documentation, including drawings, specifications, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
• Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are feasible for production.
• Work closely with project managers and other engineering disciplines to meet project requirements and deadlines.
• Conduct design reviews and present design proposals to stakeholders.
• Troubleshoot mechanical design issues and implement effective solutions.
• Stay abreast of new materials, technologies, and design methodologies in mechanical engineering.
• Ensure designs comply with industry standards and safety regulations.
• Participate in the testing and validation of prototypes and new designs.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. A Master's degree is an advantage.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in mechanical design, preferably within the power generation or heavy industrial equipment sector.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, Inventor) and FEA tools (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus).
• Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, material science, and mechanics of materials.
• Experience with design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA).
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple design tasks.
• Experience working in Klerksdorp, North West, or similar industrial hubs is beneficial.
