Placements24 is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer for its Sandton office to lead mechanical design and development of renewable energy systems from concept to production.

You will create 3D CAD models and detailed drawings, perform stress/thermal analysis, select materials, and drive design verification. Collaboration with cross-functional teams and adherence to standards are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical design and product development.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, CATIA) and FEA tools.
• Strong understanding of mechanics, dynamics, thermodynamics, and materials science.
• Experience in renewable energy sector (solar, wind, energy storage) is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical components, sub-assemblies, and systems for renewable energy applications.
• Create detailed 3D CAD models, 2D manufacturing drawings, and BOMs using industry-standard software.
• Perform stress, thermal, and vibration analysis to validate design performance and durability.
• Collaborate with electrical, software, and manufacturing engineers throughout the product development lifecycle.
• Select materials and manufacturing processes with efficiency, cost, and environmental impact in mind.
• Develop and execute design verification and validation plans, including testing and prototyping.
