Job summary

SEGULA Technologies South Africa is seeking an experienced Mechanical CAD Engineer in Gauteng to design, develop and integrate mechanical components and assemblies. You will produce detailed 3D models and 2D drawings while coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure fit, form and function.

CATIA experience is mandatory, and candidates with no CATIA background will not be considered. The role focuses on packaging, interfaces, tolerances, and manufacturability within project constraints.

About The Role

SEGULA Technologies South Africa is looking for an experienced Mechanical CAD

Engineer to join an engineering project in Gauteng.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, development and integration of

mechanical components and assemblies, producing detailed 3D models and engineering

drawings and working closely with multidisciplinary engineering and manufacturing teams.

CATIA experience is a mandatory requirement for this position. Candidates without

proven professional CATIA experience will not be considered.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop detailed 3D mechanical models and 2D engineering drawings using CATIA.
• Design and modify mechanical components, assemblies and associated interfaces.
• Perform mechanical packaging and integration within defined spatial and technical constraints.
• Ensure dimensional consistency, correct interfaces, tolerances and overall design integrity.
• Develop and maintain engineering drawings and associated technical documentation.
• Implement engineering modifications and configuration changes.
• Participate in design reviews and technical meetings.
• Collaborate with electrical, systems, manufacturing and industrialisation teams to ensure effective design integration.
• Consider manufacturability, assembly and installation requirements throughout the design process.
• Support the resolution of technical and integration issues during engineering and manufacturing phases.
• Ensure designs comply with applicable engineering standards, customer specifications and project requirements.

Mandatory Requirements

• Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design or a related engineering discipline.
• Proven professional experience using CATIA is mandatory.
• Strong experience in 3D mechanical modelling and 2D engineering drawings.
• Experience designing mechanical components and assemblies.
• Good understanding of mechanical interfaces, tolerances, packaging and manufacturing constraints.
• Ability to interpret engineering specifications and technical drawings.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary engineering environment.

Advantageous Experience

• Previous experience within the railway, automotive, aerospace or transportation industry.
• Experience working on complex products involving significant mechanical/electrical integration.
• Experience supporting manufacturing or industrialisation teams.

Contract & Availability

This is a fixed-term project assignment for an initial period of approximately 6–8 months, based in Gauteng.

Candidates should be available immediately or at short notice.

Please note: CATIA experience is mandatory. Experience with other CAD packages alone will not be considered sufficient.
