Job summary

Assegai Recruitment (Pty) Ltd has a role for a senior Materials tester/Technician in Ballito, KwaZulu-Natal. You will coordinate field, sampling and testing activities for soils, aggregates, and concrete, and supervise laboratory staff to ensure QA and ISO/IEC 17025 compliance.

The ideal candidate holds a Diploma in Civil Engineering, 5+ years in civil materials testing, strong leadership, and fluent English and Zulu, with a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Civil Engineering or equivalent; relevant experience may be considered.
• 5+ years experience as a senior Materials tester/Technician in soils and concrete (SANS).
• Experience in an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited lab is advantageous.
• Experience in Road Construction Material Testing (soil, aggregate, concrete).
• Solid understanding of SANS methods and laboratory workflow.
• Strong organisational, communication and leadership abilities.
• Fluent in English and Zulu; valid driver's license (>=3 years driving).

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and supervise daily Field, sampling and testing activities (soils, aggregates, concrete).
• Ensure compliance with standard methods, quality assurance and QMS.
• Manage workflow, turnaround times, and resource allocation.
• Supervise, guide, and assess laboratory technicians, ensuring competency and performance.
• Maintain equipment operational integrity and safe working conditions.
• Perform testing as required to meet operational needs.
• Review raw data to ensure compliance with standards and QMS.
• Support audits, quality investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Consistently adhere to quality and testing standards, and report deviations promptly.
