Job summary

Kerry is seeking a Material Planner in Durban to ensure raw and packaging material availability in line with manufacturing needs. You will forecast for vendors, monitor supplier performance and maintain stock levels per targets set by the Supply Chain Manager.

Key duties include managing MOQs and safety stocks, coordinating with departments, and ensuring timely MRP purchases while supporting warehouse capacity constraints.

Qualifications

  • Minimum degree in Business / Logistics / Supply Chain / Finance or related discipline is preferred.
  • Hands-on inventory and material planning experience.
  • Intermediate to Advanced ERP knowledge, SAP preferable.
  • Strong business understanding and insight.

Responsibilities

  • Review safety stocks, MOQs and lot sizes on a monthly basis.
  • Manage run-out raw materials and change over to alternatives.
  • Ensure inventory levels are maintained at predetermined levels.
  • Coordinate with departments to address slow-moving inventories.
  • Action MRP purchases to keep production schedules intact.
  • Ensure timely delivery of materials while minimizing stock levels.
  • Review supplier confirmations and adjust orders as needed.
  • Monitor MRP exception alerts to optimize buy dates.
  • Follow up on overdue inbound deliveries promptly.

About the role

The Material Planner is required to ensure the availability of raw and packaging materials in accordance with manufacturing requirements. The Material Planner is also required to provide forecasts to vendors in a timely manner, monitor supplier delivery performance and assist in action plans to ensure overall supplier performance is at target levels. The Material Planner also needs to ensure raw & packaging material stock levels are in line with the targets set by the Supply Chain Manager.

Key responsibilities
  • Review Safety Stocks, Minimum Order Quantities (MOQs) & Lot Sizes on a monthly basis
  • Manage run-out raw materials and change over to alternatives
  • Ensure inventory levels are maintained at predetermined levels
  • Communicate and assist with action plans with relevant departments to eliminate/use at risk, slow moving inventories
  • Ensure the MRP Suggested Purchases are actioned on a daily basis to ensure production schedules are not compromised
  • Ensure timely delivery of materials whilst striving to minimize stock levels and assist with warehouse capacity constraints
  • Review and action supplier delivery confirmations - make any necessary changes, advise planning and production if orders cannot be met
  • Review & Action MRP Exception Monitor alerts to ensure orders are bought forward or pushed out as required
  • Ensure inbounds overdue are reviewed to allow timely follow up of late/problem deliveries
  • Ensure timely & accurate set-up & ordering of new raw material/packaging items by effective liaison with relevant functions.
Qualifications and skills
  • Minimum Degree in Business / Logistics / Supply Chain / Finance or related discipline is preferred
  • Solid understanding of basic supply chain theory coupled with hands on inventory / material planning experience
  • Intermediate to Advanced ERP knowledge, SAP preferable
  • Must have a strong business understanding and insight
