Placements24 is seeking a Maritime Cleaning & Sanitation Officer for Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal. You will oversee cleaning operations across port facilities and vessels, ensuring high hygiene standards in a demanding maritime environment.

The role requires hands-on leadership, strong knowledge of hygiene regulations, and the ability to implement effective cleaning plans while coordinating with port authorities and captains. Residency in Richards Bay is preferred.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in cleaning supervision or sanitation management in maritime/industrial settings.
• Knowledge of maritime hygiene regulations and best practices.
• Strong leadership and team management skills.
• Attention to detail with excellent observational abilities.
• Ability to develop and implement effective cleaning schedules and protocols.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in inventory management and record-keeping.
• Understanding of health, safety and environmental compliance.
• Physically fit for port environments and varied weather conditions.
• Ability to work flexible hours per port operations.
• Residency in or near Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement cleaning and sanitation plans for port facilities, warehouses, and vessels.
• Supervise cleaning staff, ensuring efficient task delegation and schedules adherence.
• Conduct inspections to verify cleanliness, hygiene and safety compliance.
• Manage procurement, storage and use of cleaning supplies and equipment.
• Train staff on techniques, safety procedures and equipment use.
• Ensure compliance with maritime, health and environmental regulations.
• Investigate and address sanitation issues or complaints from port users or crew.
• Maintain records of cleaning activities, inspections, inventory and staff performance.
• Coordinate with port authorities and vessel captains to align schedules.
• Promote a culture of hygiene and safety awareness among port personnel.
