Evotec Plastics is a Cape Town based manufacturer specialising in innovative packaging for the cosmetic and corporate promotional markets. We are looking for a skilled and dependable Maintenance Millwright to support the reliability and performance of our manufacturing operations.
The purpose of the role is to improve plant reliability and reduce production downtime by performing electrical and mechanical maintenance, fault-finding, repairs, installations and preventive maintenance on Evotec’s manufacturing and supporting equipment.
Main Outcomes:
- Improved reliability and availability of production equipment.
- Reduced production downtime through prompt and effective fault-finding.
- Recurring equipment failures identified and addressed at their root cause.
- Preventive-maintenance schedules established and consistently completed.
- Accurate maintenance, breakdown and equipment records maintained.
- Critical spare parts identified and appropriately managed.
- Maintenance activities completed without introducing safety or contamination risks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Attend to mechanical and electrical breakdowns.
- Diagnose recurring machine faults and identify their root causes.
- Maintain moulding, assembly, printing, conveying and ancillary equipment.
- Maintain motors, gearboxes, bearings, belts, chains and shafts.
- Conduct fault-finding on electrical panels, sensors, contactors, relays and motor circuits.
- Maintain hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Establish and manage preventive-maintenance schedules.
- Conduct planned services and equipment inspections.
- Maintain an accurate machine and equipment register.
- Record breakdowns, repairs, parts used and production downtime.
- Identify critical spare parts and recommend appropriate stock levels.
- Liaise with machine suppliers and specialist contractors.
- Support machine installations, relocations and commissioning.
- Ensure tools, lubricants, chemicals, loose parts and maintenance debris do not introduce contamination risks.
Experience & Qualifications:
- A recognised Millwright Trade Test Certificate.
- Matric or an equivalent qualification.
- At least three years’ post-trade experience in a production or manufacturing environment.
- Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding ability.
- Experience working with three-phase motors and industrial electrical systems.
- Practical experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings.
- Ability to work independently and remain effective during breakdowns.
- Basic computer literacy and the ability to maintain accurate maintenance records.
- Willingness to work overtime or provide after-hours breakdown support when reasonably required
