  • Drive equipment reliability and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Investigate recurring equipment failures and identify root causes.
  • Manage maintenance budgets and allocate resources effectively.
  • Lead, coach and develop artisans, technicians and supervisors.
  • Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety legislation and GMR 2(1).
  • Develop and implement capex upgrades and efficiency projects.
  • Monitor spare parts usage and optimise inventory levels.

Job description

Overview

Responsible for overseeing the safe operation and maintenance of the plant and the equipment. Ensuring that the relevant statutory regulations are adhered to (GMR2). Ensuring that preventative maintenance is implemented and upheld to enable maximum production availability and efficiency. To manage technical, process and internal projects and equipment upgrades and enhancements to achieve significant benefits. Control the maintenance and energy budget. Ensure occupational health, safety & environment standards are in place and upheld.

Responsibilities
  • Preventative maintenance plan upheld for maximum production uptime.
  • Drive equipment reliability and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Investigate recurring equipment failures and identify root causes.
  • Implement strategies to improve machine efficiency and overall equipment effectiveness.
  • Ensure critical equipment remains operational and fit for purpose.
  • Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety legislation and company standards.
  • Fulfill responsibilities as a GMR 2(1) appointee where applicable.
  • Conduct risk assessments and ensure safe work practices.
  • Ensure machinery safeguards, electrical installations, and statutory inspections are maintained.
  • Manage contractor safety and permit-to-work systems.
  • Lead, manage, coach, and develop artisans, technicians, and maintenance supervisors.
  • Allocate resources effectively to meet operational requirements.
  • Monitor employee performance and address poor performance where necessary.
  • Prepare and manage maintenance budgets.
  • Control maintenance expenditure and optimize costs.
  • Monitor spare parts usage and inventory levels.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings without compromising reliability or safety.
  • Ensure maintenance records and asset registers are accurate and up to date.
  • Ensure reliable operation of utilities such as:
  • Electrical systems
  • Boilers
  • Compressors
  • Water treatment systems
  • Fuel systems
  • Develop and control maintenance budget, month by month.
  • Implemented equipment upgrades and enhancements, including capex projects.
  • Control consumables inventory of the maintenance department.
  • People management and development.
  • Continuous improvement projects to save on energy and maintenance costs and to increase thethroughput through the factory.
Qualifications
  • Technical Trade or National Training Certificate - (National diploma or bachelor's degree in electricalengineering, mechanical engineering or equivalent)
  • Government Certificate of Competency (GCC Factories) is advantageous.
  • GMR 2(1) appointment eligibility and/or experience.Previous Experience:
  • 7 to 10 years' maintenance experience within a manufacturing environment (FMCG).Minimum 5 years' experience in a management role.
