Job summary

PRO Personnel Employment Agency is seeking a Working Maintenance Foreman (Plant Fitter) for a company specialising in sustainable agricultural growing mediums. This hands-on leadership role requires diagnosing, repairing and maintaining plant equipment while guiding a small maintenance team.

You will oversee preventative maintenance, minimize downtime and work closely with production teams. Overtime and after-hours breakdowns are part of the job in a farm-based production environment.

Qualifications

• Artisan-trained Diesel Plant Fitter or General Plant Fitter.
• Minimum 2 years' post-trade supervisory experience.
• Proven leadership of a maintenance team.
• Strong fault-finding and repair capabilities.
• Experience with preventative maintenance planning.
• Basic electrical fault-finding knowledge.
• Valid driver's licence and own transport to Bokfontein.
• Willingness to work overtime and weekends.

Pro Personnel is recruiting an experienced Working Maintenance Foreman (Plant Fitter) for a company specialising in sustainable agricultural growing mediums.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically skilled, proactive individual who enjoys getting their hands dirty, solving mechanical challenges and taking ownership of plant reliability.

We are not looking for a desk-bound supervisor — we need a hands-on leader who can diagnose, repair, maintain and lead by example!

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform hands-on mechanical maintenance, fault-finding and repairs on production machinery, equipment and vehicles.
• Lead, coordinate and support a small maintenance team.
• Plan and execute preventative maintenance schedules to minimise production downtime.
• Respond effectively to breakdowns and urgent mechanical failures.
• Diagnose mechanical and process-related faults, including basic electrical troubleshooting.
• Conduct routine machinery inspections and identify potential failures before they occur.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, breakdown reports and equipment histories.
• Manage maintenance tools, spare parts and repair requirements.
• Ensure compliance with workplace safety procedures and lockout/tagout requirements.
• Work closely with production teams to improve equipment performance and reliability.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Artisan-trained Diesel Plant Fitter or General Plant Fitter.
• Minimum 2 years' post-trade experience, including supervisory or Chargehand-level responsibilities.
• Proven experience leading a maintenance team, delegating tasks and monitoring performance.
• Strong mechanical fault-finding, troubleshooting and repair capabilities.
• Practical experience with preventative maintenance planning and execution.
• Basic electrical fault-finding knowledge.
• Valid driver's licence and own reliable transport to Bokfontein.
• Willingness to work overtime, weekends and attend after-hours breakdowns when required.

HIGHLY ADVANTAGEOUS

• Trade-tested qualification (Red Seal).
• Experience in agricultural, manufacturing or processing environments.
• Knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations.
• Experience with maintenance management systems and technical record-keeping.

WORKING HOURS & ENVIRONMENT

Monday to Friday: 07:00–17:00, subject to operational requirements. This is a hands-on position within a farm-based production facility. Maintenance work frequently needs to be performed outside normal production hours. Flexibility for overtime, weekend maintenance and emergency breakdown call-outs is essential.
