Job summary

VKB Agriculture seeks an assistant to support an artisan in the workshop at the Reitz abattoir. The role involves maintaining, cleaning and sorting the workshop, inspecting machinery, and supporting production to minimise downtime.

The successful candidate will comply with ISO/HACCP and health and safety standards, assist with breakdowns, and coordinate with internal departments to ensure quality and timely service.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 or NQF Level 4 equivalent.
• N2 Certificate - Electrical or Mechanical.
• Related mechanical courses will be advantageous.
• 2 years’ experience in a similar position in a chicken abattoir/manufacturing plant.
• Thorough understanding of health & safety requirements.
• Basic awareness/knowledge of Poultry Plant Machinery.

Responsibilities

• Assist the artisan with daily workshop duties.
• Maintain, clean, and sort the workshop to limit downtime.
• Daily inspection of all machinery and tools; report findings.
• Ensure monthly planned maintenance on machinery and tools.
• Inspect conveyors to keep production running smoothly.
• Repair buildings and infrastructure as required by management.
• Enforce ISO/HACCP/OSH/20 keys safety requirements.
