Placements24 is seeking a highly capable Legal Advisor for our client in Upington, a leader in the Energy & Resources sector. You will provide specialized legal counsel across mining, petroleum, and renewable energy matters, draft and negotiate complex agreements, and manage regulatory compliance and risk for exploration, production, and projects.

The role requires a qualified legal practitioner with a minimum of 6 years’ experience in energy and resources law, strong drafting and negotiation

About the Role

Our client, a key player in the Energy & Resources sector, is seeking a highly competent Legal Advisor to join their established legal team based in Upington . This role is integral to providing specialized legal counsel on a broad range of issues pertinent to the energy and mining industries. You will be involved in drafting and negotiating complex agreements, advising on regulatory compliance, and managing legal risks associated with exploration, production, and project development. The successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of sector-specific laws and a proactive approach to legal problem-solving, requiring full-time commitment to the Upington office.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice on all aspects of the energy and resources sector, including mining law, petroleum law, and renewable energy regulations.
• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts such as exploration licenses, joint venture agreements, supply agreements, and EPC contracts.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant national and international laws, regulations, and permitting requirements.
• Advise on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) matters impacting the sector.
• Manage litigation and dispute resolution arising from operational activities.
• Conduct legal due diligence for new projects and acquisitions within the sector.

Requirements

• A qualified legal practitioner with a minimum of 6 years of experience, with a specialization in energy and resources law .
• Proven expertise in mining law, petroleum legislation, and/or renewable energy project development.
• Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks governing the sector in South Africa .
• Excellent drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills.
• Ability to work effectively within a team and manage complex legal matters under pressure.
• Membership with a recognized legal professional body.
