Job summary

University of the Western Cape invites applications for a full‑time Lecturer in the Department of Social Service Professions, within the Faculty of Community and Health Sciences. The successful candidate will join the BSW/BCD programmes from 1 January 2027 on a permanent contract, located at Main Campus, Bellville.

Minimum requirements include an MSW with PhD in progress, undergraduate teaching experience, and SACSSP registration. Closing date is 23 October 2026.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in social work (MSW) with active enrolment in a PhD programme.
• Experience in teaching at undergraduate level.
• Experience in research supervision on the honours level.
• At least one peer‑reviewed or accredited publication.
• Evidence of ongoing research.
• Five years’ experience in the practice of social work.
• Proof of registration at the South African Council for Social Service Professions.
• Experience in academic administration.
• Evidence of early‑stage engagement in academic or professional networks.

Responsibilities

• Lecturing with a mix of lectures, seminars and workshops using student‑centred approaches.
• Coordinate fieldwork activities.
• Supervise postgraduate students.
• Engage in high‑quality research and scholarship.
• Participate in academic administration and programme representation on committees.
• Contribute to social work practice through publications and community engagement.
