Job description

Learning Manager, South Africa
Location:
South Africa (remote) with priority given to candidates in the Eastern Cape and Gauteng. Travel locally, and occasional travel internationally to Kenya and the UK
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Basis: Permanent; full-time, part-time or flexible
Eligibility: You must be eligible to work in South Africa

The role

The Raspberry Pi Foundation has developed a range of high-quality, research-informed learning experiences that support computing education for young people aged 6–18, across both formal and non-formal learning contexts. These include:

  • A comprehensive sequence of lesson resources, online courses, and assessments to support the teaching and learning of computing in schools.
  • Resources for teaching AI literacy through our flagship programme, Experience AI.
  • Projects and resources that enable facilitators and young people to explore computing and digital making through our global network of Code Clubs.

Our aim is to build on these products to benefit learners across South Africa. We will do this by developing a deep understanding of the local context, adapting and developing resources to meet local needs, and designing and delivering educator training to support the implementation of the Coding and Robotics Curriculum.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver learning experiences, content, resources, and training for the Foundation's educational programmes and products.
  • Design and support training and ongoing professional development for teachers and subject advisors, equipping them to use our resources effectively.
  • Ensure that our learning experiences and resources are informed by evidence and reflect the Foundation's agreed approaches to teaching and learning in both formal and non-formal settings.
  • Follow the Foundation's quality assurance processes, including agreed approaches to inclusion and accessibility.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of the Foundation's approaches to teaching and learning.
  • Keep up to date with relevant research and best practice, identifying opportunities for improvement and innovation.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the Foundation and with external partners.
  • Use feedback and data from users to identify and implement improvements.
  • Represent the Raspberry Pi Foundation to external audiences and stakeholders as required.
  • Contribute to the Foundation's thought leadership through articles and blogs, public speaking, research, and evaluation.
Experience and personal attributes

We recognise that everyone has the potential for growth, and we welcome applications from candidates who can demonstrate that they have some, but not all, of the experience and personal attributes listed here.

  • A thorough understanding of computing, with a suitable qualification in computer science or a related subject
  • A teaching qualification, or significant experience of teaching computing or a related subject
  • Experience of designing and developing high quality learning experiences, content, and resources in South African schools
  • Experience designing synchronous and/or asynchronous training experiences for adult educators
  • Comfortable with a broad range of technologies, including hardware and software platforms, and the ability and willingness to learn new technologies as required
  • An understanding of computing pedagogy within formal education and non-formal learning
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and a collaborative approach to working with colleagues and external partners
  • Willingness to travel within South Africa and to the UK and Kenya if required
  • A commitment to the Foundation's mission and values, including on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
About us

The Raspberry Pi Foundation is an independent charity with a global mission to enable all young people to realise their full potential through the power of computing and digital technologies.

We empower schools to teach computer science and AI literacy through free curricula, classroom resources, purpose built software tools, and professional development for teachers. We inspire young people to become tech creators through the world's largest networks of coding clubs. We undertake original research that informs our work and which we use to advance the field of computer science education more broadly.

All of our resources and learning experiences are available for anyone to use at no cost. We are particularly focused on creating opportunities for young people who experience educational disadvantage and those who come from backgrounds traditionally underrepresented in technology industries.

Over the past decade, we have supported hundreds of thousands of educators and tens of millions of students. We have teams in six countries (India, Ireland, Kenya, South Africa, the UK and US) and partnerships with mission-aligned non-profit organisations in over 60 countries.

We are at the forefront of the global educational movement to expand access to computer science education and AI literacy. You can learn more about our work in our latest Annual Report.
