About the Role
Learning & Development Manager
We are seeking an experienced Learning & Development Manager to lead the development and execution of our learning, capability and skills development strategy across the Consumer business. This role is responsible for ensuring that employees, leaders and frontline teams have the skills, knowledge and capabilities required to deliver exceptional performance, customer experience and business results. The successful candidate will partner closely with business leaders, HR and external stakeholders to build a high-performance learning culture while ensuring compliance with South African Skills Development and BBBEE requirements. This is an exciting opportunity for a commercially minded L&D professional who can balance strategic thinking with hands‑on execution and delivery.
Responsibilities
Learning Strategy & Business Partnering
- Develop and implement the Learning & Development strategy for the Consumer business.
- Partner with business leaders to identify capability gaps and learning priorities aligned to business objectives.
- Conduct learning needs analyses and translate business requirements into practical learning solutions.
- Develop annual learning plans and capability-building roadmaps.
- Promote a culture of continuous learning and development across the organisation.
- Advise leaders on learning and capability strategies that support organisational performance.
Leadership & Talent Development
- Design and implement leadership and management development programmes.
- Support succession planning and talent development initiatives.
- Develop learning interventions that strengthen leadership capability across all levels.
- Facilitate coaching, mentoring and development initiatives where required.
- Drive initiatives that improve employee growth, engagement and retention.
Capability Building & Performance Improvement
- Lead learning initiatives that strengthen customer service, sales, operational and leadership capability.
- Develop onboarding and induction programmes for new employees.
- Build learning pathways and development frameworks for key talent groups.
- Ensure learning interventions support performance improvement and measurable business outcomes.
- Partner with stakeholders to identify current and future capability requirements.
Learning Design, Delivery & Technology
- Oversee the design, development and implementation of learning programmes and solutions.
- Manage classroom, virtual, blended and digital learning interventions.
- Ensure learning content remains relevant, engaging and aligned to business needs.
- Optimise the use of learning technologies and learning management systems.
- Facilitate learning programmes and workshops where appropriate.
Learning Analytics & Reporting
- Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of learning interventions.
- Establish meaningful learning metrics and reporting frameworks.
- Monitor programme outcomes and assess return on investment.
- Provide regular reporting and insights to business and HR leadership.
- Use data and analytics to continuously improve learning solutions and learner experience.
Skills Development, BBBEE & Compliance
- Lead the organisation's Skills Development initiatives and programmes.
- Manage Workplace Skills Plan (WSP) and Annual Training Report (ATR) submissions.
- Maintain effective relationships with relevant SETAs and regulatory bodies.
- Drive learnership, internship, bursary and graduate development programmes.
- Identify opportunities to maximise discretionary grants and mandatory grant recoveries.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable Skills Development legislation and requirements.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to support and maximise BBBEE Skills Development objectives and scorecard outcomes.
- Prepare and maintain documentation required for BBBEE verification and Skills Development audits.
Budget & Vendor Management
- Develop and manage the annual Learning & Development budget.
- Monitor expenditure and ensure effective utilisation of learning resources.
- Manage forecasting, reporting and governance of learning spend.
- Evaluate the effectiveness and return on investment of learning initiatives.
- Source, negotiate and manage relationships with external learning partners and service providers.
- Monitor vendor performance and ensure delivery against agreed outcomes and service levels.
Qualifications
- Degree in Human Resources, Learning & Development, Industrial Psychology, Education or a related field.
- Relevant Learning & Development, Facilitation, Coaching or Skills Development certifications will be advantageous.
Experience
- 7-10 years' Learning & Development experience.
- Minimum 3 years' experience in a Learning & Development Manager role.
- Proven experience developing and implementing learning and capability-building strategies.
- Experience managing Learning & Development budgets.
- Demonstrated experience managing Skills Development and BBBEE-related initiatives.
- Proven experience with WSP, ATR, SETA engagement, learnerships, internships and bursaries.
- Experience implementing leadership development and management development programmes.
- Experience in a consumer-facing, financial services, retail, FMCG or operational environment.
- Experience working with Learning Management Systems and digital learning platforms.
