Job summary

Gold Fields' South Deep Gold Mine is inviting applications for an Engineering Learnership in the Rigger/Ropesman stream. This programme provides practical on-site training combined with external technical instruction, aiming to qualify participants as artisans upon completion.

Applicants from host communities must meet minimum requirements, including Grade 12 with Maths and Science and N2 with four subjects; medical fitness and heat tolerance tests are part of the selection process.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 with Maths and Science.
• Full N2 qualifications with 4 subjects: Engineering Mathematics, Engineering Science, N2 Rigging Trade theory and Engineering Drawing.
• Be declared medically fit after medical exam and heat tolerance screening.

Responsibilities

• Undergoing technical training as prescribed by MQA and short courses required by the mine.
• Maintain consistent performance during the Learnership.
• Initiate developmental discussions and seek feedback.
• Adhere to the mine's conditions of employment, policies and code of conduct.
• Abide by all health and safety rules/regulations on site.
• Promote teamwork and act as an effective team member.
• Wear prescribed PPE at the mine and training centre.
• Uphold Gold Fields values: safety, integrity, respect, responsibility, innovation, and collaborative delivery.

The South Deep Gold Mine is offering aspiring Employees and or prospective Applicants from within our Host Communities interested in pursuing a career in Engineering, the opportunity to enter into a formal Engineering Learnership programme.

To qualify as an Applicant from a Host Community you to:

• Be a resident of one of our Host Communities being Bekkersdaal, Zuurberkom, Thusanang, Hillshaven, Westonaria, Poortjie, Simunye, Kalbasfontein, Jachtfontein and Westonaria Borwa
• Successfully passed the 4 x N2 Trade specific subjects as required by both the MQA and South Deep mine and as noted below.

The programme offers practical work-based training and external technical training to enable learners to adapt effectively in the world of work and to qualify as artisans at the end of their programme.

Minimum Requirements:

• Grade 12 with Maths and Science
• Be in possession of full N2 qualifications with 4 subjects i.e., Engineering Mathematics, Engineering Science, N2 Rigging Trade theory and Engineering Drawing
• Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

• Wearing all the prescribed personal protective equipment (PPE) while on mine/ at the training centre
• Abide by the values of South Deep Gold Mine i.e. safety, integrity, respect, responsibility, innovation, and collaborative delivery
