Placements24 is seeking a seasoned Lead Solar Project Developer to spearhead utility-scale solar opportunities in Rustenburg, North West. You will oversee the full lifecycle from concept to financial close, building landowner, regulator and investor relationships, and negotiating PPAs and land leases.

The role requires 8+ years in renewable energy development, deep knowledge of solar tech, project finance, and SA regulatory frameworks, plus strong leadership and travel willingness.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

About the Role

Our client, a prominent player in the utility-scale renewable energy market, is seeking an experienced and driven Lead Solar Project Developer to spearhead their initiatives in Rustenburg, North West. This senior role is crucial for identifying, evaluating, and securing new solar energy development opportunities. The Lead Project Developer will manage the entire project lifecycle from initial conception through to financial close. Success in this position requires a blend of strong commercial acumen, technical understanding of solar PV technology, and exceptional negotiation skills. You will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with landowners, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies. Key Responsibilities

• Identify and assess potential sites for utility-scale solar PV projects.


• Conduct detailed feasibility studies, including resource assessment, grid connection studies, and permitting requirements.


• Negotiate and secure land leases, power purchase agreements (PPAs), and other key project contracts.


• Develop and manage project budgets, financial models, and investment cases.


• Coordinate with engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) partners throughout the development process.


• Manage the permitting and regulatory approval processes with local, provincial, and national authorities.


• Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including investors, community leaders, and government officials.


• Prepare comprehensive project proposals and present them to internal stakeholders and potential investors.


• Stay informed about market trends, policy changes, and technological advancements in the solar industry.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Finance, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.


• Minimum of 8 years of experience in renewable energy project development, with a strong focus on solar PV.


• Demonstrated track record of successfully developing and bringing utility-scale solar projects to financial close.

• Proven ability to negotiate complex contracts and build strategic partnerships.
