Placements24 is seeking a Lead Renewable Energy Engineer in George, Western Cape, to spearhead utility-scale solar and wind projects. You will lead design, feasibility, and execution from concept to handover, applying advanced electrical engineering for renewable power generation.

You will mentor a team of engineers, ensure grid code compliance, and collaborate with clients, regulators, and partners. A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering and 8+ years of relevant experience are required;

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with specialization in power systems or renewable energy.
• 8+ years of experience in design and development of renewable energy projects.
• Experience leading engineering teams and managing complex projects.
• Knowledge of solar PV and/or wind technologies, grid integration and power conversion.
• Proficiency with renewable energy modeling software and SA grid codes.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and engineering of utility-scale solar PV and wind projects.
• Perform feasibility studies, site assessments and resource analyses.
• Develop electrical schematics, single-line diagrams and equipment specs.
• Manage full project lifecycle from concept to commissioning and handover.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and engineering of utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) and wind power projects.
• Conduct feasibility studies, site assessments, and resource analysis for new renewable energy installations.
• Develop detailed electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and equipment specifications.
• Manage the entire project lifecycle, from conceptual design through to commissioning and handover.
• Oversee and mentor a team of electrical and renewable energy engineers.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant national and international standards, regulations, and environmental policies.
• Collaborate with stakeholders, including clients, regulatory bodies, and construction partners.
• Perform system performance analysis and optimization to maximize energy yield and minimize operational costs.
• Manage project budgets, resource allocation, and procurement processes for electrical components.
• Stay updated on emerging trends and technologies in the renewable energy industry.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, with a specialization in power systems or renewable energy.
• A minimum of 8 years of experience in the design and development of renewable energy projects.
• Demonstrated experience in leading engineering teams and managing complex projects.
• In-depth knowledge of solar PV and/or wind turbine technologies, grid integration, and power conversion systems.
• Proficiency in renewable energy modeling software (e.g., PVSyst, Homer Energy, WAsP).
• Strong understanding of South African grid codes and regulatory frameworks.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.
• Ability to travel to project sites as required.
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) registration is a significant advantage.
• Residency in or ability to relocate to George, Western Cape.
