Job description

Overview

Lead Project Planner

South Africa

At Scatec, you get to work on something that matters. We develop, build, own, and operate renewable energy solutions that accelerate access to reliable and affordable clean energy. As part of a global and agile organisation, you will work with skilled colleagues across functions and geographies, take real ownership, and contribute to a company driven by the vision of improving our future.

At the heart of everything we do is our belief that we bring the energy – the energy for change, connection, and growth. It shapes how we collaborate, innovate, and create impact together.

If you are looking for a role where your contribution is visible, your development matters, and your work supports a more sustainable future, Scatec may be the right place for you.

Ready to make an impact?

Why this role matters

As a Lead Project Planner, you will own the development and management of integrated master project programmes across renewable energy projects. You will bring together the work breakdown structure, contractor schedules, cost weightings, resources, milestones, progress measurement, forecasting, and reporting needed to give project teams a reliable view of delivery. Your planning expertise will help leaders identify risk early, protect contractual milestones, and make sound decisions throughout development and execution.

What you’ll be doing

In this role, you will lead project planning and schedule control across opportunities, development, and delivery, including:

  • Develop project programmes for opportunities and development activities, and support the definition of milestones for inclusion in relevant Power Purchase Agreements
  • Prepare and maintain the integrated master project programme for the delivery phase, aligned with the standard work breakdown structure and contractual requirements
  • Establish schedule baselines, apply cost weightings, generate S-curves, and produce clear progress measurement, forecasting, and project-control reporting
  • Integrate schedules from multiple contractors into the master programme and evaluate manpower histograms, machinery requirements, interfaces, sequencing, and constraints
  • Prepare programme basis memoranda containing the assumptions, methodologies, calendars, logic, constraints, and other information relevant to each project
  • Review and verify contractors’ baseline programmes, programme basis memoranda, S-curves, and manpower and machinery histograms
  • Analyse contractual milestones, critical paths, schedule risk, delays, and notification requirements, including PPA time analysis, and reflect these accurately in the master programme
  • Coordinate site planners and provide forward-looking schedule updates to Project Management, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Logistics while ensuring Scatec’s procedures and templates are consistently followed

Your work will create the schedule discipline and visibility needed to keep complex EPC projects aligned, anticipate pressure points, and support safe, timely, and commercially sound delivery.

What you’ll gain

  • Ownership of integrated master programmes that directly influence the delivery of complex renewable energy projects
  • Exposure to utility-scale solar and wind projects across opportunity, development, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases
  • Broader commercial and contractual understanding through milestone management, PPA time analysis, forecasting, and schedule-risk evaluation
  • The opportunity to strengthen planning standards, templates, and project-control practices within a global renewable energy business
  • Close collaboration with Project Management, Engineering, Supply Chain, Logistics, contractors, and site teams across multiple markets
  • Professional growth in a visible leadership role where accurate planning supports executive decisions and successful project outcomes

What you’ll bring

Experience and qualifications

  • Formal technical qualification in Construction, Engineering, Project Management, or a closely related discipline
  • 8+ years’ project planning experience on projects involving engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC)
  • Advanced Primavera P6 capability, together with proficiency in MS Project, MS Office, and related planning and reporting tools
  • Strong experience developing and controlling integrated master schedules, baselines, work breakdown structures, S-curves, and manpower and machinery histograms
  • Demonstrated capability in critical-path analysis, schedule-risk evaluation, progress measurement, forecasting, contractor schedule review, and contractual milestone management
  • Experience on renewable energy EPC projects, particularly wind or solar, is advantageous; fluent written and spoken English is required, and additional languages are an asset

What it’s like to work at Scatec

At Scatec, we combine purpose with performance. We value responsibility, clarity, and collaboration, and we encourage people to challenge existing ways of working, contribute ideas, and keep developing. You can expect an environment where people work together across disciplines and geographies, where good performance matters, and where you are trusted to take ownership without unnecessary hierarchy.

If you are an experienced planner who can see both the detail and the full project picture, this could be a strong next step in your career. We are looking for someone who combines rigorous Primavera planning capability with sound EPC judgement, confident stakeholder engagement, and the discipline to turn complex project information into one credible, decision-ready programme. The role may require international travel to developing markets.

What we offer

At Scatec, you will be part of a company with a clear and ambitious purpose, working on renewable energy solutions that make a lasting difference. You will gain responsibility early, learn from experienced colleagues, and build your capabilities in a business that offers global exposure, strong development opportunities, and meaningful work in the energy transition.

Scatec is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment based on merit, competence, and business needs.
