Job summary

Scatec in Cape Town, South Africa, seeks a Project Cost Controller for solar projects in Sub-Saharan region. You will partner with project managers, procurement and engineering to develop and maintain the project cost forecast and provide insights to management.

This role reports to the Business Controlling Manager and offers exposure across construction, finance and operations, with opportunities to influence profitability and strategic decisions.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Finance, Business, or equivalent.
  • 3–6 years of relevant work experience, preferably international.
  • Experience in renewable energy or large infrastructure projects is a plus.
  • Ability to consolidate data from several sources and present findings.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain the project cost forecast with PMs and procurement.
  • Generate project status reports for the project team and management.
  • Monitor cash flows and milestone payments; ensure timely transfers of funds.
  • Perform delta analysis of actual costs vs budget and flag deviations.
  • Maintain the risk and opportunities portfolio with PMs.
  • Evaluate financial impact of scope changes on project margin.
  • Perform financial analysis and reporting on revenue, cost of sale and gross margin.

Why this role matters

Scatec is in a phase of solid growth and is looking to strengthen the company with a Project Cost Controller for solar projects in the Sub-Saharan region. This is a highly visible, challenging, hands-on, dynamic and wide-ranging role covering activities such as business partnering with non-finance teams to add value to the construction segment, driving strategy and profitability across the different projects.

The position is a key resource in the Finance and project team and will report to the Business Controlling Manager.

What you'll be doing

  • Collaborate with PM (Project Managers), procurement, and engineering to develop and maintain the project cost forecast on an ongoing basis
  • Work closely with the PMs to generate all required project status reports for the project team and internal management
  • Maintains project cash flows monitoring both the forecasted cash flows and actual cash flows of the project. Follow up Milestone payments and ensure timely transfers of funds
  • Perform delta analysis of actual projects costs vs budget on an ongoing basis bringing to the PMs attention any deviations and or variations to the budget
  • Manage the risks and opportunities portfolio for the project together with the PMs and maintain the risk register
  • Evaluate the financial impact on the project margin of changes and variations in Scope of Work
  • Performing financial analysis and reporting on all key figures of the projects in scope (revenue, cost of sale and gross margin)

What you'll bring

Experience and qualifications

  • University degree in Finance, Business or equivalent
  • University degree in finance, Business or equivalent
  • 3-6 years of relevant work experience, preferably from an international environment
  • 3+ Years experience; Finance Renewable Energy and Large Infrastructure Projects
  • Ability to consolidate data from several sources for presentation, being able to efficiently process and evaluate large data volumes and propose actions based on findings
  • Ability to build strong networks and collaborate efficiently with functions outside of finance. Support the project team in making sound business decisions
  • Quick learner with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Master Microsoft suite and Business intelligence tools
  • Fluent in English written and verbally
