Key Responsibilities

• Develop and present detailed concept proposals for the overall aesthetic and visual direction of the production.
• Oversee the design and creation of all scenic elements, including sets, props, and special effects, ensuring artistic integrity and technical feasibility.
• Collaborate closely with the Director, Lighting Designer, and Sound Designer to achieve a cohesive and impactful visual and sensory experience.
• Manage the budget for all production design elements, ensuring adherence to financial constraints.
• Lead and mentor a team of scenic artists, prop makers, and construction crew, fostering a creative and efficient working environment.
• Source materials, manage vendor relationships, and oversee procurement to meet design specifications and timelines.
• Conduct site visits and adapt designs to the specific performance space in Durban .
• Ensure all designs comply with relevant safety regulations and technical requirements.

Requirements

• A strong portfolio showcasing extensive experience in production design for theatre, with a focus on immersive or avant-garde productions.
• Proven ability to translate conceptual ideas into practical, buildable designs.
• Expertise in theatrical drafting software (e.g., AutoCAD, Vectorworks) and 3D modeling tools.
