Job summary

thyssenkrupp Uhde South Africa is seeking a Lead Chemical Engineer to drive lead projects in energy and chemical/refining sectors. You will interact with clients, lead PFD/P&ID reviews, HAZOP/SIL, and participate in 3D model reviews. Strong feasibility and brownfield experience are essential.

The role demands expertise in process simulation tools (Aspen/PROII) and HTRI, with a focus on unit operation sizing and safety systems. Commissioning knowledge is advantageous.

Qualifications

• BSc. Chemical Engineering with 8 years engineering experience in contracting environment.
• Professional registration with ECSA preferable.
• Experience in feasibility, concept and basic engineering is essential.
• Experience in brownfield project execution.
• Understand fundamentals of unit operation sizing and process safety systems.
• Able to produce PFDs and P&IDs; familiar with Aspen/PROII, HTRI.

Responsibilities

• Interact with client to understand and deliver expectations.
• Lead engineer on various projects.
• Lead or facilitate PFD and P&ID reviews, HAZOP and SIL reviews.
• Participate in 3D model and constructability reviews.
• Manage manpower planning and project scheduling for lead roles.
• Develop design basis, process flow diagrams and balances.
• Develop piping/instrument diagrams and process equipment data sheets.
• Develop process philosophies, operating and commissioning manuals.
• Contribute to commissioning and plant start-up.
• Ensure understanding of process control systems and propose efficient schemes.
