Placements24 is seeking a Lead Metallurgist in Gauteng to spearhead metallurgical testing, process development, and plant troubleshooting across mining processing plants. The role emphasizes improving recovery, efficiency and economic viability while mentoring a technical team.

You will collaborate with operations, engineering and R&D, employing METSIM/GEMS simulations, ensuring safety and environmental compliance, and coordinating with external consultants.

Competenze

• Honours or Master's in Metallurgy/ Chemical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 10 years in mineral processing/metallurgy with at least 3 years in lead/supervisory role.
• Proven expertise in comminution, flotation, leaching, and other mineral processing unit operations.
• Proficiency with metallurgical simulation software (METSIM, GEMS) and data analysis tools.
• Strong knowledge of ore types and associated processing challenges.
• Demonstrated leadership and ability to mentor technical teams.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
• Experience in Gauteng's mining sector is advantageous.
• Willingness to work in a hybrid model (remote analysis and on-site presence).

• Oversee and manage all metallurgical operations and processes within the processing plants.
• Lead development and implementation of new metallurgical techniques to improve recovery and product quality.
• Conduct metallurgical test work, pilot plant trials, and data analysis to identify improvements.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex metallurgical issues affecting plant performance.
• Develop and maintain process control strategies for consistent operation.
