Placements24 is seeking a Lead Mechanical Systems Engineer to drive the design and delivery of large-scale energy infrastructure projects in Gauteng. You will oversee a multidisciplinary team, from concept through deployment and ongoing maintenance, ensuring reliability, safety, and cost efficiency.

The role requires a hands-on leader with a strong background in mechanical design, simulations (CFD/FEA), and CAD, plus proven project management and vendor liaison experience.

• Masters in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 8+ years of mechanical engineering experience with at least 3 in leadership/supervision.
• Proven track record in managing complex mechanical systems projects in energy.
• Experience with CFD/FEA, CAD tools and design validation.

Our client, a prominent player in the renewable energy sector, is actively seeking a Lead Mechanical Systems Engineer to spearhead their projects in Tembisa, Gauteng. This senior position demands a seasoned professional capable of overseeing the entire lifecycle of complex mechanical systems, from initial concept development through to final deployment and maintenance. The ideal candidate will possess a strong track record in leading engineering teams, managing intricate projects, and driving innovation in mechanical design and system integration. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and implementation of advanced mechanical systems for energy infrastructure projects.
• Manage and mentor a team of mechanical engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of collaboration and technical excellence.
• Develop and execute project plans, budgets, and timelines, ensuring successful project delivery within scope and quality requirements.
• Conduct rigorous engineering analyses, including thermodynamic, fluid dynamics, and structural integrity assessments, to optimize system performance and safety.
• Oversee the procurement of mechanical components and equipment, ensuring compliance with specifications and quality standards.
• Collaborate with external stakeholders, including suppliers, contractors, and regulatory bodies, to ensure project alignment and successful execution.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including design specifications, testing protocols, and operational manuals.
• Identify and implement opportunities for continuous improvement in system design, operational efficiency, and cost reduction.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• A minimum of 8 years of comprehensive experience in mechanical engineering, with at least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
• Proven experience in managing complex mechanical systems projects from concept to completion, preferably within the energy sector.
• Expertise in mechanical system design, simulation tools (e.g., CFD, FEA), and relevant CAD software.
• Strong understanding of project management principles, including risk assessment and mitigation strategies.
• Exceptional leadership, team management, and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and guide engineering teams.
• Experience in contract negotiation and vendor management.
• Familiarity with relevant industry codes and standards (e.g., ISO, ASME).
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure and meet demanding project deadlines.
