Job summary

Placements24 seeks a dynamic Lead Molecular Biologist with a genomics focus to head our Bloemfontein research operations. You will lead a team of scientists, guide genomic studies, and ensure high-quality execution of experiments in a cutting-edge facility.

You will manage workflows, develop assays, and analyze large genomic datasets, mentoring staff and collaborating across groups to advance genomic applications in Bloemfontein.

Qualifications

• PhD in molecular biology/genomics or related field.
• 5+ years hands-on genomics research experience.
• Experience with NGS platforms and library preparation methods.
• Proficiency in bioinformatics tools and data analysis pipelines.
• Experience leading a scientific team.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and implementation of genomic studies, including NGS experiments.
• Develop and optimize molecular assays for gene expression, genotyping, and mutation detection.
• Manage and analyze large-scale genomic datasets using bioinformatics tools.
• Supervise and mentor junior molecular biologists and technicians.
• Collaborate with other groups to integrate genomic data into broader investigations.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure safety and quality standards.
