Placements24 is looking for a Lead Frontend Developer to join their Stellenbosch, Western Cape offices. You will lead a team of frontend engineers, mentor junior developers, and drive the technical direction of the user interface across the company’s flagship digital platforms.

The ideal candidate has deep expertise in React or Angular, strong UI/UX understanding, performance optimization, and responsive design.

About the Role

Our client, a rapidly expanding software development company renowned for its innovative web solutions, is seeking an experienced and dynamic Lead Frontend Developer to join their team in Stellenbosch, Western Cape . This role is central to crafting exceptional user experiences across their flagship digital platforms. You will lead a team of talented frontend engineers, mentor junior developers, and drive the technical direction of the user interface. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in modern frontend frameworks such as React or Angular, along with a strong understanding of UI/UX principles, performance optimization, and responsive design. This position is based at our client's state-of-the-art offices in the picturesque university town of Stellenbosch , offering a stimulating and creative work environment within the heart of the Western Cape .

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of frontend developers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
• Drive the technical vision and architectural decisions for the frontend of web applications.
• Develop, implement, and maintain high-quality, responsive, and performant user interfaces using React or Angular.
• Collaborate closely with UI/UX designers, product managers, and backend developers to translate requirements into elegant and functional user experiences.
• Ensure code quality, maintainability, and adherence to best practices through code reviews and established standards.
• Optimize applications for maximum speed, scalability, and cross-browser compatibility.
• Implement and manage frontend build tools and processes (e.g., Webpack, Babel).
• Stay current with emerging frontend technologies, trends, and best practices, advocating for their adoption where appropriate.
• Troubleshoot and debug complex frontend issues, ensuring a seamless user experience.
• Contribute to the development of comprehensive frontend testing strategies (unit, integration, end-to-end).
• Champion accessibility standards and best practices in frontend development.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to project planning and estimation.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Web Development, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Minimum of 6 years of professional experience in frontend development, with at least 2 years in a leadership or lead role.
• Expert proficiency in JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, and CSS3.
• In-depth experience with either React or Angular, including associated state management libraries (e.g., Redux, NgRx).
• Strong understanding of UI/UX principles and best practices for creating intuitive interfaces.
• Experience with frontend build tools (e.g., Webpack, Gulp, Grunt) and package managers (e.g., npm, Yarn).
• Familiarity with RESTful API integration.
• Knowledge of version control systems, preferably Git.
• Experience with performance optimization techniques.
• Understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG).
• Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
• Proven ability to mentor and guide junior developers.
