Recruitpro Solutions in Bedfordview, Johannesburg, seeks a Lead Electrical Engineer to lead the design and delivery of HV substations and overhead lines up to 765kV for diverse renewables, distribution, and transmission projects.

You will oversee engineering deliverables, mentor juniors, support FAT/SAT, and contribute to tenders and business development, with travel within SA and abroad. Requires ECSA Professional Engineer and 7–10 years’ experience.

Qualifications

• Registered with ECSA as a Professional Engineer.
• 7–10 years in design, management and execution of distribution substations and OHLs up to 132kV.
• Experience with HV power distribution and transmission substations.
• Proficiency with primary plant equipment technology and specifications.

Responsibilities

• Planning and design of HV substations and OHLs (33kV–765kV).
• Leading engineering deliverables: layouts, drawings, equipment selection, specifications and calculations.
• Developing and approving design documentation, BOQs and technical specs.
• Technically leading junior engineers, drafters and designers.

Lead Electrical Engineer – Permanent | Bedfordview, Johannesburg

A leading consulting engineering firm is looking for a Lead Electrical Engineer to join their team, working on HV power distribution and transmission substations and overhead lines up to 765kV. This is an exciting opportunity to work across a diverse mix of renewables, distribution and transmission infrastructure projects, with real scope to grow into a senior technical leadership role.

What you'll be doing:

• Planning and design of HV substations and OHLs (33kV–765kV)
• Leading engineering deliverables: layouts, drawings, equipment selection, specifications and calculations
• Developing and approving design documentation, BOQs and technical specs
• Technically leading junior engineers, drafters and designers
• Supporting FAT/SAT, pre-commissioning, commissioning and site queries
• Preparing EOIs, tenders and RFQs, and contributing to business development

What you'll need:

• BSc Eng / BEng in Electrical Engineering
• Registered with ECSA as a Professional Engineer
• 7–10 years' experience in design, management and execution of distribution substations and OHLs up to 132kV
• Eskom design experience is essential; transmission substation experience highly advantageous
• Solid grounding in primary plant equipment technology, specification, sizing and selection
• Experience with substation earthing design (CDEGS or Autogrid Pro)
• OHL design and renewable energy (PV, Wind, BESS) exposure advantageous
• Strong project management ability and stakeholder management skills
• Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS Project)
• Willing and able to travel within South Africa and abroad
