Job summary

Placements24 in Pretoria seeks a seasoned Lead DevOps Engineer to build and maintain scalable, highly available cloud infrastructure supporting fintech platforms. You will lead automation, CI/CD pipelines, and IaC efforts, while mentoring a team of DevOps engineers and driving technical strategy.

The role requires strong leadership, cloud expertise (AWS/Azure/GCP), and hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and monitoring stacks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of experience in DevOps, SRE, or related infrastructure role.
• Proven experience with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP) and their core services.
• Strong scripting skills (Python, Bash).
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI, CircleCI).
• Proficiency with Docker and Kubernetes.
• IaC experience with Terraform and Ansible (Chef/Puppet a plus).
• Experience with monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK).
• Strong leadership, mentorship, and communication abilities.
• Experience in regulated environments (finance) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and manage scalable cloud infrastructure (AWS/Azure/GCP).
• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines to automate builds, tests, and deployments.
• Implement and manage IaC using Terraform and Ansible.
• Oversee and optimize Kubernetes-based container orchestration.
• Establish robust monitoring, logging, and alerting systems.
• Collaborate with development teams to improve performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Ensure security and compliance of infrastructure and applications.
• Troubleshoot complex infrastructure and deployment issues.
• Mentor junior DevOps engineers and promote best practices.
• Define and enforce DevOps best practices across the eng org.
