Job summary

Afrique Connection Consultancy seeks a Laboratory Technician for a Durban clinical research site focusing on HIV, TB and Covid-19 studies. The role is a one-year fixed-term contract and requires microbiology/clinical pathology certification, HPCSA registration, and at least 2 years of lab experience.

Responsibilities include sample handling, data capture, equipment maintenance, inventory control, and adherence to infection control.

Qualifications

Laboratory/Microbiology or Clinical Pathology certification is required.
Current HPCSA registration is required.
At least 2 years of laboratory experience in Microbiology or Clinical Pathology.
Knowledge of laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
Knowledge of SANAS, GCP, GCLP standards and IATA.
Knowledge of point-of-care testing and adherence to strict turnaround times.

Responsibilities

Receive, sort, store and retrieve samples.
Capture data and work with laboratory reports.
Maintain records of laboratory processes and equipment.
Monitor equipment performance and schedule calibration/service.
Assist with laboratory stock and inventory control.
Adhere to infection control measures and biohazard waste disposal (incl. autoclaving).
Assist with SOP development, writing and implementation.
