Qualifications

• Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Building Science, Civil Engineering Technology, Architecture, or related field.
• Certification as a Building Inspector from a recognized professional body.
• Minimum 4 years of experience in building inspection or related field.
• Strong knowledge of building codes (SANS), zoning laws, and construction practices.
• Proficient in reading and interpreting complex construction plans.

Responsibilities

• Conduct on-site inspections of new construction, alterations, and repairs to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations.
• Review construction plans and specifications prior to issuing permits.
• Verify that work is performed according to approved plans and permits.
• Identify code violations and issue notices of correction.
• Follow up on corrections to ensure compliance.
• Maintain accurate and detailed records of all inspections and enforcement actions.
• Interpret and explain building codes, ordinances, and regulations to contractors, homeowners, and the public.
• Attend meetings and provide technical expertise on building code matters.
• Investigate complaints regarding unsafe structures or building code violations.
• Collaborate with other municipal departments and external agencies.
