Job summary

A local non-profit organization in Cape Town is seeking a Kitchen Assistant for their Haven Old Age Home. KITCHEN ASSISTANT POSITION - HAVEN OLD AGE HOME

The Haven Night Shelter Organisation’s method is to offer social work services, rehabilitation opportunities, family reunification services, physical care and support to adult people living on the streets who are committed to reintegration. The Haven Night Shelter requires the services of a Kitchen Assistant for our Haven Old Age Home at Woodstock, Cape Town. The successful applicant will report directly to the Manager.

Responsibilities

• Properly cleaning and sanitising all food preparation areas according to established standards of hygiene.
• Washing and appropriately storing all cooking appliances, instruments, utensils, cutting boards, and dishes.
• Preparation of meal ingredients, which includes washing, cleaning, peeling, cutting, and chopping fruit, vegetables, poultry, and meat.
• Sweeping and mopping the kitchen floors as well as wiping down kitchen walls.
• Assisting with the unloading of delivered food supplies.
• Organizing and correctly storing food supplies.
• Promptly transferring meal ingredients from storage areas to the kitchen as per the Cook's instructions.

Minimum Requirements

• Reside in the area close to the shelter or in the surrounding areas.
• A chefs diploma or professional cookery certificate/food preparation programmes obtained through an accredited chefs school.
• Minimum of 1 year previous kitchen work experience.
• Be able to work shifts and alternate weekends.
• Sound knowledge of food safety regulations.
