Job summary

A proudly South African insurance company is seeking a Junior Underwriter to underwrite life policies and manage risk for a group of companies.

Key duties include underwriting applications, obtaining medical information, liaising with medical practitioners and re-insurers, and ensuring compliance with ASISA/TCA frameworks. The role also covers new business administration such as arranging pathology services and communicating decisions to doctors and clients.

Qualifications

• Underwriting of policy applications and amendments per policies and procedures.
• Override QUIRC decisions when necessary.
• Provide underwriting decisions to clients telephonically (decline, loaded, excluded).
• Liaise with re-insurers, medical practitioners and external parties on underwriting matters.
• Comply with legislation and ASISA protocols (TCF).
• Place ASISA listings (serious medical conditions on central register).
• Liaise with clients to obtain medical information via QUIRC questions.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite individual life policies and evaluate medical information.
• Perform new business administration on individual life policies: arrange pathology nurse services, draft HIV+ letters, explain loadings/declines.
• Send correct correspondence and SMS to branch, intermediary and client.
• Assist with complaints resolution and compliance (TCF).

Junior Underwriter Position

A proudly South African insurance company that offers affordable products and services for life, funeral, savings, and retirement is seeking a Junior Underwriter to underwrite life policies in order to manage risk for a Group of Companies.

Duties & Responsibilities

Perform underwriting on individual life policies:

• Perform underwriting of policy applications and amendments according to policies and procedures by phoning clients and obtaining all medical information (e.g., evaluate information provided and decide what terms will/can be offered to the applicant using the QUIRC and AIMS systems).
• Override QUIRC decision when necessary.
• Provide underwriting decision to client telephonically (decline, loaded, excluded).
• Liaise with re-insurers, medical practitioners, and other external parties on underwriting matters.
• Comply with legislation and ASISA protocols (TCF).
• Placements of ASISA listings (serious medical conditions on central register).
• Liaise with clients (i.e., policy holders, branch, and sales staff) (TCF) to obtain all medical information by means of questions generated by the QUIRC underwriting system.

Perform new business administration on individual life policies:

• Place request for pathology nurse services to draw blood.
• Write and send “HIV+ letters” to doctors.
• Write and send reasons for loadings and/or declined cases to doctors.
• Ensure that correct correspondence, SMSs are sent to branch, intermediary, sales manager, and client.

Assist with complaints resolution and compliance (TCF):

• Monitor the timely resolution of complaints in accordance with the complaint’s resolutions policy.

Desired Experience & Qualification

• Grade 12
• RE1 & RE5 (advantage)
• 60 or 120 credits on NQF level 5 (Depending on the date of appointment in the industry) (advantage).
• Underwriting certificate (advantage)
• 1 Year Experience in long-term insurance underwriting
• 1 year administrative experience
• Medical Underwriting background (advantage)
