Job summary

Old Mutual in South Africa is seeking a motivated Junior Platform Engineer to join our growing technology team. You will help support, enhance, and maintain business-critical platforms while ensuring stability, performance, reliability, and availability.

Working closely with developers, analysts, solution specialists, DevOps engineers, and support teams, you will contribute to platform enhancements, problem-solving, integration development, and scalable software solutions.

Qualifications

• National Diploma, Degree or equivalent qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a related field.
• 1-3 years' experience in software development, application support, platform engineering, or a related technical role.
• Exposure to enterprise applications, system integrations, or software delivery environments.
• Experience working in Agile delivery teams will be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Develop, configure, and maintain platform functionality and system enhancements.
• Support the implementation of new features, integrations, and business requirements.
• Assist with application configuration, customization, and development activities.
• Contribute to continuous improvement and platform modernization initiatives.
• Monitor platform performance, health, and availability.
• Investigate and resolve application defects, incidents, and performance issues.
• Participate in root cause analysis and implementation of preventative solutions.
• Support platform maintenance activities and production support requirements.
• Develop high-quality, maintainable, and scalable software solutions.
• Participate in code reviews and technical design discussions.
• Support all phases of the software development lifecycle.
• Ensure development standards, security principles, and best practices are followed.
• Support and develop system integrations and APIs.
• Assist with troubleshooting and resolving integration issues.
• Ensure reliable and secure data exchange between systems and platforms.
• Identify opportunities to improve platform performance and reliability.
• Support optimization and tuning of applications and services.
• Contribute to reducing technical debt and improving maintainability.
