Job summary

RPO Recruitment’s client, a leading engineering consultancy in Pretoria, seeks a motivated Junior Geotechnical Engineer to gain hands-on experience across site investigations and design projects.

You will assist with drilling supervision, interpret soil data, contribute to reports and foundation recommendations, and perform basic design calculations under supervision, while travelling to sites and maintaining safety standards.

Qualifications

• BSc in Civil Engineering with a Geotechnical focus.
• 2–4 years of geotechnical experience.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel.
• Registered as Candidate Engineer with ECSA.
• Experience with geotechnical software (GeoStudio or similar).

Responsibilities

• Assist with geotechnical site investigations, including supervising drilling and sampling.
• Interpret soil and rock data for geotechnical assessments.
• Support preparation of geotechnical reports and foundation recommendations.
• Carry out basic design calculations under supervision.
• Attend site meetings and liaise with contractors and clients.
• Monitor site conditions and contribute during construction.
• Ensure compliance with relevant standards and safety requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist with geotechnical site investigations, including supervising drilling and sampling activities
• Interpret soil and rock data and contribute to geotechnical assessments
• Support the preparation of geotechnical reports and foundation recommendations
• Carry out basic design calculations under supervision
• Attend site meetings and liaise with contractors and clients
• Monitor site conditions and provide input during construction phases
• Ensure compliance with relevant standards and safety requirements

Requirements:

• BSc in Civil Engineering with a focus on Geotechnical Engineering
• Approximately 2–4 years’ relevant geotechnical experience
• Basic understanding of soil mechanics and foundation design principles
• Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel to site
• Experience with geotechnical software (e.g. GeoStudio or similar)
• Proven exposure to site investigations and reporting
• Candidate Engineer registration with ECSA
