Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a Junior Field Services Technician to provide on-site IT support across stores, distribution centres, and offices. You will handle end-user devices, POS equipment, printers, and store peripherals while working under supervision to resolve incidents and support new store activities.

You will develop foundational field-based IT skills within a retail environment, adhering to security controls and escalation procedures to minimize disruption to store trading.

Qualifications

• Matric (Grade 12) is required; IT-related diploma or certificate is advantageous.
• 1–2 years’ experience in IT support or field services.
• Exposure to retail, multi-site environments is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Provide first- and second-line on-site IT support under supervision.
• Troubleshoot POS devices, end-user equipment, printers, scanners and store peripherals.
• Support basic store network and connectivity checks under guidance.
• Assist with device installations, swaps, break/fix activities, and new store/refurbishment support.
• Build understanding of end-to-end store technology dependencies and operational workflows.

Dis-ChemPharmacies hasanopportunityavailableforaJunior Field Services Technician, reporting into the Regional IT Operations Lead and guided by Senior Field Services Technicians, is an entry-level operational role supporting the stability and availability of IT systems and devices across Dis-Chem stores, distribution centres, and offices. The role focuses on building foundational field-based IT support capability while providing supervised, hands‑on support for end-user devices, POS equipment, store networks, peripherals, and basic infrastructure components. The Junior Field Services Technician contributes to incident resolution, routine maintenance, new store support activities, and documentation, developing the skills required to progress into senior field support or IT operations roles. The role operates within a retail‑critical, customer-facing environment, adhering strictly to operational procedures, security controls, and defined escalation paths to minimize disruption to store trading.

Requirements

• Matric (Grade 12); IT-related diploma or certificate advantageous
• 1–2 years’ experience in IT support, service desk, or field services roles
• Exposure to retail, multi‑site, or customer‑facing environments advantageous
• Basic knowledge of PCs, POS devices, printers, and peripherals beneficial

Responsibilities

Field service delivery & learning

• Provide first- and second-line on‑site IT support under supervision
• Assist with troubleshooting and resolving issues related to POS devices, end‑user equipment, printers, scanners, and store peripherals
• Support basic store network and connectivity checks (under guidance)
• Assist with device installations, swaps, break/fix activities, and new store or refurbishment support
• Build understanding of end-to-end store technology dependencies and operational workflows

Quality, testing & operational support

• Perform basic validation and testing of devices and systems after fixes or installations
• Follow defined checklists and procedures to ensure consistent, high-quality outcomes
• Assist with root‑cause identification for recurring store issues under guidance
• Follow incident, request, and change management processes consistently
• Support stable store operations during peak trading and critical business periods

Governance & ways of working

• Adhere to IT operations standards, security policies, and access controls
• Operate strictly within approved procedures, controls, and escalation frameworksEnsure compliance with asset management, device handling, and audit requirements
• Maintain accurate documentation, job notes, and asset updates (ITAM/CMDB)
• Escalate risks, unresolved issues, or safety concerns promptly to senior technicians or regional leads
