Job summary

Ambit Recruitment South Africa seeks an Afrikaans-speaking Junior Accountant who can handle payroll, statutory submissions and cross-entity accounting. The role is largely remote but requires occasional attendance for stock takes, meetings and team activities in Johannesburg/Pretoria.

You are a self-starter with good organisation, able to work from home and meet deadlines while staying accurate under pressure.

Qualifications

• 1-2 years' accounting experience
• Experience with payroll
• Experience across multiple companies or entities
• Fluent in Afrikaans and English
• Strong numerical accuracy and reconciliation skills
• Logical thinker with good problem-solving ability
• Quick learner with strong initiative
• Able to work independently from home and manage time effectively
• Able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
• Stable track record

Responsibilities

• Process accounting transactions up to trial balance
• Process payroll on Sage Payroll Professional
• Handle statutory returns including VAT201, EMP201, EMP501 reconciliations, provisional tax, and income tax
• Prepare audit schedules including asset registers, leave provisions, and related supporting documents
• Assist auditors with queries during audit periods
• Check and verify payments on Standard Bank Business Online
• Complete VAT reconciliations
• Maintain inventory records on Microsoft systems
• Complete ROE submissions
• Prepare UIF declarations and UIF claim forms
• Assist with preparation of management accounts, including income statement and cash flow statement

We are looking for an Afrikaans-speaking, detail-oriented Junior Accountant who can work across multiple entities, manage payroll and statutory submissions, and operate effectively in a fast-paced remote environment.

Please note: Whilst the job is remote, there are times when you need to attend stock-takes, meetings, and team-building activities. We are therefore looking for candidates in the Johannesburg/Pretoria areas.
