Job summary

SydSen Recruit is seeking an experienced Joinery Department Manager to lead a high-volume timber manufacturing department within a specialist shopfitting environment. You will plan, schedule and control production and manage supervisors, ensuring on-time delivery.

The role requires 10+ years in joinery or timber manufacturing, strong CAD reading skills, and hands-on knowledge of MDF, laminates and related materials. On-site, permanent position with competitive salary.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10+ years' experience in joinery, cabinetmaking, shopfitting or timber manufacturing.
• Experience managing supervisors and large production teams.
• Strong ability to read CAD drawings, technical specifications, and cutting instructions.
• Hands-on knowledge of MDF, chipboard, laminates, glass and related materials.
• Willingness to work overtime or weekends when required.

Job description

We are looking for an experienced Joinery Department Manager to lead a high-volume timber manufacturing department within a specialist shopfitting environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, schedule and control joinery production
• Allocate work and resources through Production Supervisors
• Drive productivity and on-time delivery
• Identify production bottlenecks
• Optimise labour, machinery and production capacity
• Oversee quality inspections and final sign-off
• Reduce rework, rejects and material wastage
• Read and interpret CAD and technical drawings
• Manage supervisors, performance, discipline and training
• Manage overtime and workforce planning
• Ensure safe machinery operation and OHS compliance
• Monitor labour, materials, consumables and departmental costs

Minimum Requirements

• 10+ years’ experience in joinery, cabinetmaking, shopfitting or timber manufacturing
• Proven experience managing supervisors and sizeable production teams
• Strong ability to read CAD drawings, technical specifications and cutting instructions
• Hands-on knowledge of MDF, chipboard, melamine, laminates, solid surface, glass, Perspex, Duco/2K and related materials
• Strong quality-control capabilitiesExperience with production planning and bottleneck resolution
• Trade-tested Cabinetmaker / Joiner / Master Craftsman advantageous
• Retail fixture experience highly advantageous
• Willingness to work overtime or weekends when required

Salary: R45,000 - R60,000 CTC per month
