Job summary

Standard Bank Group in Johannesburg is seeking an experienced Java engineer to design, code, test, debug, and maintain backend applications in development environments, applying established standards and tools under senior guidance.

The role requires hands‑on experience with Java 8+, Spring/Spring Boot, REST APIs, microservices, AWS cloud, and modern engineering practices such as DevOps and Agile.

Qualifications

• 5–7 years of experience translating business requirements into technical specifications.
• 8–10 years of overall IT engineering experience in a similar role.
• Experience with dev ops, agile, and multiple IT engineering disciplines.
• 5 years’ experience building backend apps using Java (Java 8+) and Spring/Spring Boot.
• AWS cloud experience.
• Experience building and consuming REST APIs in a microservices architecture.

Experience Required

• 5-7 years
• Broad experience in translating business and functional requirements into technical specifications and developing the programming code to create the solutions.
• 8-10 years
• Proven experience in modern engineering practices i.e. dev ops, agile etc., Proven experience across multiple, broad IT Engineering disciplines, with demonstrated specialisation in at least one. Experience within the required scope of expertise.
• 5 years’ experience developing backend applications using Java (Java 8 or higher) and Spring/Spring Boot.
• CLOUD (AWS) experience
• Experience building and consuming REST APIs and working within a microservices architecture
