Job summary

Standard Bank of South Africa Limited in Johannesburg invites an experienced engineer to lead technology efforts for Calypso (Back Office) within Global Markets Technology. You will design, implement and refine software across the delivery pipeline.

You will mentor engineers, participate in reviews, and drive continuous delivery, ensuring auditability and alignment with architectural standards while collaborating with stakeholders to deliver value to customers.

Qualifications

• 5-7 years: translate business requirements into technical specifications and coding solutions.
• 8-10 years: experience with modern engineering practices (DevOps, Agile) across IT disciplines.
• Software Engineering experience required in the specified scope.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to application lifecycle management, architectures and guardrails; maintain audit readiness.
• Apply suitable development methodologies to enable continuous delivery and collaboration.

To apply computer science theories, principles to create, refactor moderate to complex programs/scripts, integration software services. To design complex specifications, code, test, debug, enhance programs within the Continuous delivery pipelines and provide support, maintenance of systems, programmes. To execute software developer responsibilities according to Engineer practice, standards, frameworks, roadmaps and the architects application standards. Participate in reviews of colleagues' work.

• Adhere to application lifecycle management accountabilities, architectural platforms and guardrails and ensure that all activity is digitally recorded and tracked to enhance reporting, to support process review and improvement and to maintain an audit ready posture.
• Adopt and adhere to suitable and agreed development methodologies and principles through work outputs and behaviours that enables continuous delivery and development across the production environment as well as ensuring effective collaboration with all colleagues and stakeholders in order to meet required targets and therefore deliver value to the customer.
• Coach or mentor less experienced Engineers on technical aspects of application development, controls, and documentation standards as well as on engaging effectively with relevant stakeholders.
• Construct, interpret and execute moderate to complex end to end system and program tests to verify correct operation of completed systems.
• Contribute to programmes and platforms for the processing, analysis and visual display of data, integrating new and existing data sources and ensuring the validity and reliability of data to support data driven decision making (as required).

Additional Information

Experience Required: Software Engineering

5-7 years: Broad experience in translating business and functional requirements into technical specifications and developing the programming code to create the solutions.

8-10 years: Proven experience in modern engineering practices i.e. dev ops, agile etc., Proven experience across multiple, broad IT Engineering disciplines, with demonstrated specialization in at least one. Experience within the required scope of expertise.
