Job summary

PBT Group is seeking an experienced Java Developer to join their Cape Town team, delivering secure payment solutions within a major banking environment. You will work on EMV Kernel integration, card-present transaction processing, and core stack interfaces.

The role requires 5-8 years of Java experience, strong understanding of payments concepts, and collaboration with payments domain specialists, infrastructure engineers, and business stakeholders.

Qualifications

• 5-8 years of hands-on Java development experience in payments/fintech.
• Familiarity with ISO 8583 or ISO 20022 messaging.
• Experience with REST and SOAP web services integration.
• Secure coding practices relevant to financial systems.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and enhance Java components within the payments processing stack.
• Work on EMV Kernel integration and transaction processing logic across chip-based and contactless payments.
• Build and maintain integrations between payment terminals, POS/ATM devices, and core banking systems.
• Implement and maintain transaction processing workflows including FNOL, authorisation, settlement, and reconciliation.
• Contribute to EMV certification processes and compliance with EMVCo, Visa, Mastercard, and local schemes.
• Debug and resolve issues across the payments stack at infra and application levels.
• Write clean, well-tested Java code with unit and integration tests.
• Collaborate with payments domain specialists, infrastructure engineers, and business stakeholders.
• Document payment flows, integration specs, and architectural decisions.
• Upskill on infrastructure components and payment stack layers beyond current scope.
