Indsafri is seeking a highly skilled Java Developer (Intermediate/Senior) to join our IT & Data team. Design, develop, test, and maintain Java-based applications and microservices to drive business growth and operational excellence.

You'll work with Java, Spring, Angular, cloud-native architectures, and API-driven distributed systems, applying Agile practices and AI-assisted development to boost productivity and code quality across the lifecycle.

Qualifications

Relevant IT Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, IT, Software Engineering, or related field.
Experience in financial services or investments is advantageous.
4–6 years of software development experience.
10+ years of software development experience.

We are seeking a highly skilled Java Developer (Intermediate / Senior) to join our IT & Data team. This role is responsible for designing, developing, enhancing, and supporting modern Java-based applications and microservices that enable business growth and operational excellence. The successful candidate will be involved in the full software development lifecycle, from solution design and development through to deployment, monitoring, maintenance, and continuous improvement.

The role requires expertise in Java and Spring technologies, front-end development using Angular, and the development of cloud-native, API-driven, and distributed systems. The successful candidate will leverage modern engineering practices, Agile methodologies, and AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity, code quality, and solution delivery.

Key responsibilities

Application Development

Design, develop, test, and maintain Java-based applications and services.
Build scalable microservices and distributed systems using Spring Boot and related frameworks.
Develop and maintain Angular-based front-end applications and user interfaces.
Create and integrate RESTful APIs and web services.
Maintain, enhance, and support existing applications and platforms.
Participate in solution design sessions and contribute to technical architecture decisions.
Apply object-oriented analysis, design principles, and development patterns to build maintainable solutions.
Interpret UML diagrams and collaborate with architects, analysts, and development teams.
Design and implement secure, scalable, and high-performing applications.
Develop and support integrations using REST, SOAP, messaging technologies, and APIs.
Work with technologies such as JMS, IBM MQ, AWS SQS, XML, and JSON.
Support cloud-native solutions and deployment practices within AWS and related environments.
Contribute to application monitoring, performance optimisation, and reliability improvements.

Quality Engineering & DevOps

Develop and execute unit, integration, and automated tests.
Apply best practices for error handling, security, code quality, and performance optimisation.
Participate in CI/CD and build management processes using tools such as Git and Gradle.
Support production and non-production environments and resolve technical issues when required.

Agile Delivery & Collaboration

Participate in Agile ceremonies and support delivery across multiple initiatives.
Collaborate closely with Business Analysts, Solution Architects, Testers, and Product Owners.
Contribute to story refinement and provide technical input into solution design and backlog management.
Mentor and support team members where appropriate, particularly at Senior level.
Explore and adopt new technologies, frameworks, and development practices.
Utilise AI-assisted development tools and practices to improve productivity, code quality, and solution design.
Identify opportunities to improve system performance, stability, scalability, and maintainability.

Experience, knowledge and qualifications

Relevant IT Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field.
Experience within financial services is advantageous.
Investment industry experience will be highly advantageous.
4-6 years of software development experience.
Strong experience with Java, Spring Boot, Angular, and API development.
Experience working with enterprise applications and integrated solutions.
10+ years of software development experience.
Proven experience designing and developing enterprise-scale applications, integrations, and microservices.
Experience leading technical initiatives, mentoring developers, and influencing solution design.
Experience in cloud-based and modern software engineering environments.
