Job summary

Monkey and River in Centurion, South Africa, is seeking a seasoned Java developer to design, build, and maintain scalable backend systems. You will work across enterprise platforms with a focus on reliability and performance, using Spring Boot, Hibernate, and JavaFX.

You’ll collaborate with product managers, UI/UX designers, and fellow engineers, write clean code, and participate in Agile ceremonies. Hybrid work is available with 2 days onsite and 3 remote.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
• Proven experience in Java development with a portfolio of real-world projects.
• Strong understanding of OOP, concurrency, memory management, and Java performance tuning.
• Proficiency with Spring Boot, Hibernate, and JavaFX.
• Experience with Maven or Gradle and CI/CD practices.
• Knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases.
• Exposure to cloud platforms like AWS or Azure is advantageous.
• Comfortable with Git workflows (GitHub/GitLab).
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
• Continuous learner of Java trends and tools.

What we look for

Bachelor?s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Proven experience in Java development, with a strong portfolio of real-world projects.

Solid understanding of object-oriented programming, concurrency, memory management, and Java performance tuning.

Experience with build tools like Maven or Gradle, and familiarity with CI/CD practices.

Strong database knowledge?working with relational (e.g. PostgreSQL, MySQL) and/or NoSQL databases.

Comfortable working with version control tools (e.g. Git) and collaborative workflows (e.g. GitHub/GitLab).
