Job summary

Monkey and River in Centurion, South Africa, is seeking a seasoned Java developer to design, build, and maintain scalable backend systems. You will work across enterprise platforms with a focus on reliability and performance, using Spring Boot, Hibernate, and JavaFX.

You’ll collaborate with product managers, UI/UX designers, and fellow engineers, write clean code, and participate in Agile ceremonies. Hybrid work is available with 2 days onsite and 3 remote.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
• Proven experience in Java development with a portfolio of real-world projects.
• Strong understanding of OOP, concurrency, memory management, and Java performance tuning.
• Proficiency with Spring Boot, Hibernate, and JavaFX.
• Experience with Maven or Gradle and CI/CD practices.
• Knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases.
• Exposure to cloud platforms like AWS or Azure is advantageous.
• Comfortable with Git workflows (GitHub/GitLab).
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
• Continuous learner of Java trends and tools.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable, high-performance Java applications across platforms.
• Build and integrate backend services and APIs for reliability and performance.
• Utilize Spring, Hibernate, and JavaFX to streamline development.
• Collaborate with product managers, UI/UX designers, and engineers to implement solutions.
• Write clean, maintainable code following industry standards and best practices.
• Conduct unit testing and participate in full lifecycle testing.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues across development, staging, and production.
• Continuously research and adopt emerging technologies to improve quality.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies and mentor junior developers.
