IT DESKTOP TECHNICIAN

Purpose of the Role
Provide first-line technical support to end users and the production environment by installing, maintaining and troubleshooting desktop hardware, operating systems, peripherals and network connectivity. The successful candidate will assist in ensuring maximum uptime of IT services across the business while supporting manufacturing operations on a shift basis.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Matric / Grade 12
- A+ and N+ Certifications
- Minimum 1 year's experience providing end-user support
- Minimum 1 year's experience supporting desktop hardware, laptops, scanners and printers
- Minimum 1 year's experience in network support and troubleshooting
Preferred
- IT Certificate or Diploma
- Minimum 6 months' experience supporting workstation hardware
- Minimum 6 months' experience in user support
- Minimum 6 months' experience troubleshooting network connectivity
Advantageous
- Experience within a manufacturing environment (preferred but not essential)
- Experience supporting manufacturing systems
- Basic technical hand skills (ability to work with hand and power tools)
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure and repair desktop hardware and operating systems.
- Provide first-line support for IT issues affecting the production environment.
- Troubleshoot desktop, laptop, printer, scanner and peripheral issues.
- Support basic network connectivity troubleshooting.
- Assist senior IT staff with investigating and resolving technical issues.
- Assist with the implementation and support of IT infrastructure projects.
- Document IT support procedures and technical processes.
- Deliver excellent customer service while ensuring timely resolution of support requests.
Additional Role Information
Manufacturing Experience
- Manufacturing experience is preferred but not considered an absolute requirement due to the limited availability of suitable candidates.
- Candidates with strong desktop support experience from other industries will also be considered.
Shift Work
This role operates on a shift rotation to provide IT support to a 24/7 manufacturing environment.
Technicians work:
- Alternating day and night shifts
- Night shift every second week
- Rotational schedule supporting continuous production operations

- Approximately 19:30 – 06:00
Overtime
Paid overtime is required when operationally necessary.
Typical overtime includes:
- Approximately two Saturdays per month
- Approximately one Sunday per month
